It’s In The Relationship

What’s more rewarding than achieving a great goal? Standing on top of your universe, and feeling invincible? In short, it’s the journey along the way. In this post I’ll be highlighting why a strong relationship with your objectives, goals, and aspirations matters. Just a friendly reminder the following information is for informational purposes only. If you’re looking for additional help, reach out and work with a professional.

There is no better feeling than the big wide smile, exuberance, joy, and happiness after conquering a great goal. It is time to roll back the clock to the last time you felt the feeling of happiness (and success). For me, it was after a recent track workout. Let me explain. Once a week it is my goal to go to the track and work on my weak “links” and get comfortable with pushing myself outside my boundaries. Going into the workout I was physically tired from the previous day of work. I wasn’t in the best of moods and wasn’t particularly interested in pushing myself into the growth zone. All I wanted was to be comfy and cushy, and not at 5:30am track. But here I am. At the track luckily with a dozen close friends who call each other family (not literally, but you get the idea). I went through the motions of my warm-up, stretching and doing a few goofy and chatty miles. All this time trying to wake and hype myself for a few hard repetitions. I told myself that I would complete four repetitions and evaluate. Self-evaluation in a workout is typically recommended. In my case, it was prescribed. Before reaching the third repetition I had a moment of transition. I started feeling more like myself, the tiredness waned, and my spirits were rising. Moreover, I offered to lead and got slotted into the rotation, and we were rolling! In the end, I completed all the repetitions, pushed myself into the growth zone a few times and felt good. I am so glad I decided to make the conscious decision to start, evaluate, and allow myself to be flexible in this situation. In short, allowing myself to accept how I was feeling enabled me to open more doors of opportunity, which lead me on the path to success.

Now, I want to ask you to think about how you felt after working tirelessly to reach and achieve a goal. What motivated you to continue? Why didn’t you throw in the towel? Was there a moment of transition? These are all the things that allow ourselves to build relationships with our actions and goals. Meeting a goal or objective is only as meaningful as the work you put in to reach it. Going after said goal day after day, getting back up after challenges, and digging deep when the going gets tough is where we build our relationship with the activity. Instead of trying to be an avoider, be the one who accepts and invites challenge into your daily activities. For the most part, when I am faced with a hurdle in my day – I do my best to invite the opportunity to work through the things that challenge me.

If you are still reading this, the next time you’re faced with a hurdle, say yes I can and put a smile on your face!

Using evidence-based practices can help and assist in reaching your goals and dreams in a safe and effective way.
