It’s In The Details

Ever wonder what separates the good from great, gold medal from silver, and winners from those looking in from the outside? If any of these thoughts or questions have spun around in your head, you’re in the right place. In this post I want to discuss the fine print and details that enable winners to be winners. As always, a friendly reminder the following information is for informational purposes only. If you’re looking for additional help, reach out and work with a professional.

You get home, out at the bar, or out at a friend’s place, and the TV is tuned to your favorite sport who happens to be playing in the championship game. In fact, your favorite team is playing, they are leading, and win the championship! You’re happy, everybody is happy, partying, and having a good time. Among all the partying, the following questions keeps swirling in your head. How can I win my personal championship? How did they do it? What can I do to get ahead and be on the winning side? Why do I always feel like I’m on the outside looking in?

First, it starts with starting. You can read more about placing your foundation in this post. Once the foundation is laid you can put your plan into action. Putting your plan into action isn’t just about crossing the finishing line, scoring the buzzer beater shot, or totally crushing it in the board room. It is about the many steps along the journey from point A to point B. You can start winning your personal championship by showing up today. Showing up today means giving your personal best with the tools that you’ve got. This means being open to new experiences, allowing yourself to enter the growth zone, and being willing to stay and go the extra step. Now that you’ve started and are showing up, it is up to you to make sure you arrive with the correct equipment, tools, or devices. Without having the correct tools, the chances or probability of success greatly decreases. So, showing up with the correct tool(s) will allow you to take the next step up the ladder. This means taking the time to plan, prepare, and organize ahead of time. For example, if your goal is to exercise first thing in the morning, be sure to have your plan set the night prior. Layout your clothing, set your alarm clock, and most importantly get to bed at a time which will give you sufficient rest and sleep. If you plan to consume more healthful foods, purchase the stuff that will help you get there. Shop the perimeter of the store. Stock up on fruits, veggies, and foods that will help you reach your goal. You eat what you purchase. So be wise.

Being successful in any domain takes commitment, work, and dedication to the process. There are no tricks or hacks to the top step. Ask anyone who’s been there! Champions are made champions not only by winning the biggest game. They win in the hundreds, and thousands of hours spent committing themselves to winning in having a healthy mind, body, and network of friends, family, and coaches. You too can get ahead by zeroing in on the individual task in front of you. In addition to celebrating the big wins and championships, we should be celebrating the everyday!! Celebrate the walk you took, the healthier food option at lunch, or the time you carved out for yourself. Remember, you’re strong and you got this!

Using evidence-based practices can help and assist in reaching your goals and dreams in a safe and effective way.
