Pillars of Support

After the holidays, we’ve all been getting back into rhythm and falling into default mode position. It is widely known that the individual who makes, sets, and is still on target to reach their new year’s resolutions today, will fare well into the year. What are the key elements that are allowing you to get better with each passing day? What are the things that are fueling you? What has allowed you to get to this point? In this post I want to share my three pillars for continued success through this year and beyond.

Know your goal!

I speak and write about this regularly, and it ought to be said again. You need to know what you want if you want to target something great. Without goal posts, we are just wandering and probably going in circles. If we can avoid going in circles, we will fare well in moving toward your goal. For example, you don’t go on a road trip without a semblance of a plan. You need to have an idea of what you want, and you work toward it. It need not to be perfectly lined up, though keeping an idea of what you want, and when, and it will provide you with markers and progress points along the way. The same could be said right here. Our goals don’t need to be perfectly lined up. Like a road trip, we are bound to take a few detours, turns, and backtrack at times to find our footing and direction. Having a goal in mind will almost always steer you back on track.

Simplicity!

Say after me, keep it simple, keep it simple, keep it simple. Whatever your said goal or goals are, break them down into simple fail-proof steps. Each step should line up to meet-up with the next. Many small and simple steps will help you climb to the top of your goal. Small simple steps will assist and help in making your routine into a habit. When something is simple you will naturally turn in that direction. Having simple and constructive steps will build confidence and will feed into continued success for the long haul.

Daily consistent work!

This final pillar of mine is about showing up and doing what needs to be done. No great champion has won or will win gold without a tremendous amount of work before getting to the start line. The action of showing up will assist in propelling you toward your ultimate goal. Somedays your effort will require you to step outside your comfort zone, and other days will be meant for rest and recovery. Ultimately, your daily action will help you reach your personal summit. Personally, if I hadn’t put myself into the growth zone over the last 15 plus years, I wouldn’t be where I am today in my recreation and fitness. You too can start climbing right now!! There really isn’t any reason to wait.

Through the use and implementation of evidence-based practices we can reach and exceed our goals and expectations. If you, a friend, friend of a friend, or like-minded person is looking for guidance or assistance in reaching their goals – don’t hesitate to reach out to me today!

This concludes our first series, emphasizing and focusing on positive habit formation and implementation. In the coming month of February, I will turn the focus to heart health in honor of Heart Health Month.
