Time To Gather Your Tools

Welcome to your workshop, it’s time to build something great. We so often talk about our dreams, aspirations, and big ideas that we want to accomplish and conquer. Let me start by asking you to ask yourself, when was the last time I started on my path to achieving greatness? When did I make a conscious decision to embark on a journey for me? In this blog post, I’m going to provide a few tactics that have helped me, and those that continue to help me every day. What are we waiting for? Let’s unpack our tools and put them to good use.

1- Know what you want.

The first thing to unpack is knowing what you want to achieve and accomplish. Without knowing what you want, we won’t know which tools we need to use. You won’t use a hammer to unclog a toilet. You get the idea. First, take a moment and lay out the vision of what you want.

Take this step a level deeper by asking yourself, what does this task mean to me? By adding additional purpose to your mission, you’ll be more likely to employ extra energy when the going gets tough. I promise, there will be times that will challenge you. Having purpose and knowing what you want will help you get through to the light at the end of the tunnel.

2- Find local resources

This next step from personal experiences is where most of us fail, trip, stumble and a hard time getting back on track. However, it doesn’t need to be this way. The problem isn’t having the resources, the problem is that there are too many resources. With many options we tend to get stressed, overwhelmed, and lose focus. Think of the last time you purchased a shirt, slacks, or pair of shoes. How many options were there? I know I get overwhelmed by the options, choices, and styles. Now, zoom out. Imagine you’re embarking on a journey for the first time, or for the first time in a long time. It could be extremely overwhelming. What to do? Speak to a friend, reach out to a specialist, or keep yourself to just a handful of options.

Take this one step deeper by creating a flow chart of the steps you need to take to assist and guide you from here to there.

3- Be a reductionist

Simplify, simplify, simplify.

Need I say it again? Thought so!

So often when we’re on a journey we tend to get carried away, and start to think 3, 4, 5 steps ahead of where we are in the moment. This might sound elementary, though the moment in front of you is exactly that. The moment in front of you. When we focus on the one simplified task in front of us, we will do it. Too much complexity or ambiguity, I might as well throw in the towel.

Bottom line, keep the one step in front of you as simple and clearly defined as possible.

If you, a friend, or friend of a friend needs guidance or assistance in getting from home to goal, do not hesitate to reach out. With using evidence-based practices we can meet and exceed our goals.
