When looking at the highest peak in the mountain range, we tend to focus on the peak and the immediate slopes leading up to the top. Our imagination starts to churn. How do I get there? Wouldn’t it be nice to be standing at the top and enjoying the view? We naturally start to envision fame, success, and fortune knowing that you’ll be just one of many people who ever make it to the top out of the many who attempt. When looking at the mountain, we need to ask the questions at what we’re not looking at. We need and must start looking at the base of the mountain. We’re leaving absent, how did the peak become the peak? The answer lies within us and is seemingly elementary. The peak became the peak, because of its base. Without the base of the mountain there is no peak! Just like in life, the way to the top is via the base. In this post I will provide you with a few of the steps that can assist you in reaching for the top of your mountain.
This time of year, we tend to ask ourselves many questions that revolve around being the best we can for the upcoming year. Whether you’ve done this work over the course of the last few weeks of 2022, or jumping on the bandwagon now, lets go!
Climbing to the upper slopes and ultimately to the top of the mountain is going to require much planning, preparation, and daily effort to get yourself to the top. Let me break this down into a phrase which I use to get my day started. Say after me, commitment, dedication, and daily effort will get me on my way. It starts with committing yourself to something you value. It continues with heart and dedication by not losing sight on today. Continuous daily effort will propel you one step closer to the top.
Commitment. Take a few moments right now, tomorrow, and the day after to write down the things you value. This could include but not limited to your hobbies, jobs, and roles within your home. Ultimately, we’re looking for a list of things that you’re already doing, plan to do, and things you would have on your wish list.
Dedication. Take said list and circle ONE thing you know you can accomplish. This could be the smallest most inconsequential thing on your list, something you know you can achieve and accomplish. Take said list item and write it down and share it with one other person. Let them know that you are doing said list item, and to keep you accountable.
Continuous daily effort. Take the needed step every day that will assist you in reaching your goal. Having a target, bulls’ eye, and mountain top to reach towards will give you purpose. Sometimes you will not feel willing to take your daily step. When that happens, call the person you shared your goal with. Having someone along with you on your journey will provide you with guidance support and reason to continue to the top.
If you, a friend, or friend of friend are looking for guidance, assistance, and support, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Using evidence-based practices, we can meet and pass our goals.
