Capital Recreation is in business to make recreation accessible to all. I am not here to tell you the what, the who, and the when. I am here to support and encourage your positive behaviors. I am a Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) breaking down barriers to leisure and recreation participation. This blog is here as a tool to spread my personal thoughts and ideas. But most of all, to create community!
This week we celebrated Veterans Day. A day of saying thank you. A day of reflection. A day of being proud of who we are. I think everyday should be Veterans Day. The same way everyday should be Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. But totally understand that having one dedicated day brings out the specialness and highlights all that our current and veteran service members have done to keep us safe at home and across the world. Thank you!
In addition to Veterans Day, we also have Thanksgiving in the same month. Similarly, with the same theme and idea of saying thank you. On the same note I want to say this month is a great time to say thank you to your body. Appreciating your body. Accepting what you can (or cannot do) and being satisfied with it. Participating in leisure recreation is an excellent way to thank yourself. Whether it’s 15-minute walk or a two-hour run. Whatever you do, it is an opportunity to say thank you to yourself. Many times, it is a struggle. But when it is, there’s the moment of great opportunity and time to shine for yourself.
I create systems and processes which make it easy to keep it simple. Here are 3 things you need to know. Plan. Prepare. Do.
Rule number 1. Have a Plan. Know what you want to do.
Rule number 2. Be Prepared. The easier you make it for yourself, the greater likeliness of taking action.
Rule number 3. Go and Do. Show up regularly. Put is the work and have fun. It’s your time to shine and smile. It’s time to enjoy your journey. It’s your time to say, thank you to you!
Support for Capital Recreation comes from friends, friend of friends, and you! If you or anyone you know has a topic you would like me to write or talk about, I would love to hear from you. Please, share your moments of growth and success on social media using the hashtag #shlomotrained
Until next time – peace, and virtual fist bump going your way!
