Decoding Spring

How I am using the season to unlock my potential

Capital Recreation is in business to make recreation accessible to all. I am not here to tell you the what, the who, and the when. I am here to support and encourage your positive behaviors. I am a Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) breaking down barriers to leisure and recreation participation. This blog is here as a tool to spread my personal thoughts and ideas. But most of all, to create community!

I am a seasonal kind of person. I love each season as they are. Each one has a special place in my heart. Though, when it comes to the season of spring, I feel a little extra pep in my step and additional swagger in my walk. Further, I find each season to have a decoded message – something I can take away, grab, and use to improve myself and lift each other up here in our community. Let’s jump right in!

If winter is akin to hibernation, I would like to say and think that spring is a time for blossoming and growth. We can see this take place and take shape in our local parks, flora, and fauna. The wildlife over the winter lay dormant and seemingly lifeless … until the weather starts to warm, and the days become longer. Which is when transformation starts to happen. That is, going from laying dormant in the winter to full bloom by summer. In between we have spring. The time to start-up or reinvigorate doing the things we love to do. It is from lying still to full bloom. It is going from dark and cold to sunny and warm. It is about growing into the positive beings that we are and can be!

For myself, it is a ‘party’ of transformation and transitioning. I find it to be about taking the skills and tools that I have been working on and polishing indoors during the winter – to refining and taking them outdoors. I am talking about my new habits and routines which I’ve been focusing on since the end of last year and the beginning of this calendar year. It is taking my meditation from indoors to outdoors. It is taking longer walks in nature and reconnecting with the beautiful places and people that I am surrounded by. It is about committing and recommitting to be the best I can be. I cannot be you, and you cannot be me. If that is the case – I am taking ownership of the things I could control. It is about celebrating with each step along the way. For each of our journeys are unique and special.

I challenge you to come along for the ride through spring and summer! I challenge you to challenge yourself. Do one positive thing each day in the month of April to make your tomorrow better. When you do – feel free to share your journey by using the hashtag #shlomotrained.

Good Luck!!

Until next time – peace, and virtual fist bump going your way!
