Capital Recreation is in business to make recreation accessible to all. I am not here to tell you the what, the who, and the when. I am here to support and encourage your positive behaviors. I am a Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) breaking down barriers to leisure and recreation participation. This blog is here as a tool to spread my personal thoughts and ideas. But most of all, to create community!
When we focus on our opportunities, we know no limits. Every day I wake, is a new day to master my craft and focus on my successes. What I try to do is focus on controlling the controllable and less focus and worry about the things I cannot control. It is commonly known when we focus on negativity and are always looking out for what is wrong, that is all we see, and we limit ourselves. It is analogized to putting on horse blinders and that is literally all we see. Why be limited when we can do the opposite and make our opportunities limitless?!
Let’s talk about reenforcing the good. It should be noted that there is not a seven-step rule book that says, this is how you become a person which focuses on the good and positive. My personal journey has and continues to be one of daily exploration. It is a choice. What do I want to see in the world and what type of story do I want to write for myself? Is the book going to be ‘doom and gloom’ or ‘shining sun’? I would love my book to be about shining sun! Just because I am focusing on the good, it does not mean that bad and negative things stopped happening. I would like to say that I use my vision and foresight to see myself through the negative.
Here are a few examples of things I have done over the last year to keep myself focusing on the good:
- Stuck at home and cannot go out? No problem! How many phone calls, emails, and text check-ins can I do? Even if it is just to one person – that is a win!!
- No more in-person work? No problem! Pivot and adjust. Find the tools to work from home.
- Unable to gather? No problem! Invite the community to help assist is raising funds for a local hospital.
Not every situation is an ideal situation. It is about using creativity and a positive ‘I CAN’ mindset to power through the task, hour, day, and week. The question is, what type of book are you writing?
Finally, I would love to hear your journey! What is ONE thing you can say you’re proud of over the last year? Please leave a comment below so we can a grow forward together!
