Capital Recreation is in business to make recreation accessible to all. I am not here to tell you the what, the who, and the when. I am here to support and encourage your positive behaviors. I am a Certified Recreational Therapist breaking down barriers to leisure and recreation participation. This blog is here as a tool to spread my personal thoughts and ideas. But most of all, to create and uplift our community!

“The ultimate form of intrinsic motivation is when a habit becomes part of your identity. It’s one thing to say I’m the type of person who wants this. It’s something very different to say I’m the type of person who is this.” ~James Clear

At the start of 2020, it was a personal goal of mine to work on my writing skills. Personally, I can see how I have come a long way, though I still have so much more to improve upon. So, stay with me for any run-on sentences! It is that time of year again. The final month of the calendar year, with the final days ticking by and counting down to the new year! With the rapidly approaching new year, it gets me looking back at the past year and all the things that I have done for myself, with, and for the community. I also look back at the things that required modification, task items I did not get to at all, and things I aspire to do in the near future. It is not about remorse, self-pity, or feeling down. It is about looking at the things that I have done and celebrating with conviction! The question which needs to be asked every day is as follows; am I doing ONE thing today to help me along the path to success? It is not about trying to grab onto the largest goal and taking one big-mac bite. It is about taking small bite-sized pieces, chewing, and digesting every bit along the way. It is not about trying to rush from one task to the next. It is about taking stock of the present moment and enjoying the task at hand. All to often, as I can only speak for myself – I try to ‘just get it done’ without properly enjoying the process, the present moment, and the thing that I am indulged in. With that said, this past year has been one with many ups and downs – however it has also been a year of tremendous experiences. As we move closer to the new year, I hope you are thinking about the things you want to continue doing, start doing, or to make improvements. Through continued action, staying dedicated to the process, and keeping an eye on the larger prize it will enable you to stay on track.

I am not here to tell you what you should or should not be doing. I know, we all have a sense of what we want and need to do. Now, the question is, what do the steps to success look like? Whether it is an annual, quarterly, weekly, or daily task I will make the greatest effort to take just ONE STEP forward. One daily step forward, will help you reach your goals!

What are your goals for the coming year, and how can I support you?

Until next time, peace – shalom!
