Capital Recreation is in business to make recreation accessible to all. I am not here to tell you the what, the who, and the when. I am here to support and encourage your positive behaviors. I am a Certified Recreational Therapist breaking down barriers to leisure and recreation participation. This blog is here as a tool to spread my personal thoughts and ideas. But most of all, to create and uplift our community!
“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” ~Friedrich Nietzsche
The above quote from Friedrich Nietzsche found in the book, Man’s Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankl is one that I have been turning to many times in challenging and turbulent situations. We all know 2020 has been a year filled with many ups and downs. Though there are many things we could still be appreciative and thankful for during the COVID-19 pandemic. In life, as I speak for myself, there is a plan we envision – and then there is a plan that is right for us. Whether we believe it or not, it could be as small as shifting your schedule for the day, or it could mean making a career change that wasn’t initially planned for. Though if one keeps their mission, focus, and determination zoned in on why they are doing what they’re doing that journey becomes much more meaningful. When your journey is meaningful, you’ll be more willing to take the next step forward in your journey. Keeping your head on the horizon and seeing your next step will enable you to maintain clarity in any situation. For myself, this meant leaving a place and a job which I loved. I loved everything about it. I loved the progressive model, the self-directed style of work, and the most amazing people. The people around me on this former job are some of my closest and dearest friends. Although I needed to make a change in my career for many more than one or two reasons it does not mean I have lost focused on the journey to the ever-moving finish line. Or can I say, start line? Personally, I don’t think there is ever a finish line in the things we engage ourselves in on a daily basis. I think of our weekly, monthly, and annual cycles around the sun more like a coil. Although we come back to the same place, we are one level up. Being someone who loves helping others, my eventual goal is to return to a full-time job as a recreational therapist or accept a job in a public health related position. Although I’m not in my ‘dream job’, I do know this present time is gearing me up for a return to recreation. I know I am learning invaluable knowledge and understanding to working with many persons, personalities, and rapidly evolving situations. Instead of throwing in the towel or raising the white flag, I am giving 100% of me in every situation. There is no substitute to working smartly.
I know, if you are still reading this you are likeminded and are too on a path to growth, happiness, and success. As it’s said, “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.”
Until next time … Peace!
If you or somebody you know is interested in learning more, I would love to hear from you.
