Why We All Need To ‘Take Action’

Capital Recreation is in business to make recreation accessible to all. I am not here to tell you the what, the who, and the when. I am here to support and encourage your positive behaviors. I am a Certified Recreational Therapist breaking down barriers to leisure and recreation participation. This blog is here as a tool to spread my personal thoughts and ideas. But most of all, to create and uplift our community!

There are many phrases out there, showing up is half the battle, just do it, and nothing happens without action. However, this is all good and rosy when one already has the tools within to go from a ‘negative’ to a ‘positive’. For many of us, and myself included, it has taken many years to train my mind to think in positive terms. For many who know me I like to say, the answer is yes, but what are the steps needed to achieve along the way to reach the goal. By no means am I saying that I’ve mastered the idea of positive thinking, but I could say that through my continual and determined focus,  I’m at a greater propensity to think in terms of I can, and yes I will. A few years ago … not so much. Which is what I want to share with you over here. How was I able to do this? And how will you become a more positive thinker? Particularly in times of uncertainty and instability.

First things first, one shall make a personal commitment and decide what is wanted as a desired outcome. Such as making a commitment to walk, run, or wheel for 30-minutes a day. If walking isn’t your thing, then make a goal to increase time spent working on your hobbies. After all, we will gravitate toward things we like to do. Second, we need to show up. Simply, we need to ask, is the action that I am doing today going to help me to my long-term goal of tomorrow? Third, we must stay committed throughout the process! There are going to be days which you don’t want to do anything. I can almost promise, unless you are injured – doing something today to help toward your goal, is better than doing nothing at all.

Bottom line, there are no tricks, hacks, or seven steps to success. It is time … take a few moments to start thinking about the things you want to accomplish in the coming days, weeks, and new calendar year. Taking action starts now!

Once we recognize the powers of focusing at one step at a time, it will become easier over time to train our thinking and mindset to think in positive terms. Next week we will focus on … Making Adjustments.

If you or somebody you know is interested in learning more, I would love to hear from you.
