Capital Recreation is in business to make recreation accessible to all. I am not here to tell you the what, the who, and the when. I am here to support and encourage your positive behaviors. I am a Certified Recreational Therapist breaking down barriers to leisure and recreation participation. This blog is here as a tool to spread my personal thoughts and ideas. But most of all, to create community!
Now that we have sorted out our goals, it is time to set our priorities. There are many things I want to do, though don’t always line up with my current situation. For example, sometimes I wished I lived in the Rocky Mountains and had plenty of snow in the winter, and abundant open outdoor spaces in spring and summer to go out and about to explore the wild and wonderful outdoors. However, being close to family is a priority – and that isn’t in the Rocky Mountains. Although I don’t have the Rockies, I do have the Appalachian Trail (at a short drive away) and a great parks system to get out and about. The same could be said about the things we do day to day. I find it a priority to move my body, maintain hydration, and eat home-cooked meals every day. So, without compromise, I make sure I do these things. Not only does it make me feel good, but it also allows me to be present and focused when in the company of others. It allows me to stay focused at work, home, and with friends and family. Let me ask you, what priorities do you have for yourself? When setting your goals for the coming week, think about what you really care about and what is within reach. Now, go get it!
Action: Take 3 minutes right now with pen and paper and write down 2 things you’ve been wanting to do but haven’t had the time to get to. For example, if you have a plan to start cooking more at home, or start a mindful practice, write down your when, where, and what you are going to need to be successful. From my experience, we fail to succeed because we lack to necessary tools.
Once you recognize your personal priorities, you will be able to make clearer choices in other areas of your day and week. Next week we will focus on … Taking Action.
